Junior title triumph for Herts Phoenix

Herts Phoenix's junior teams helped them win the Howard Williams Trophy.
The award went to Herts Phoenix for being the most successful junior club in the 2011-12 season.
Several of the Herts Phoenix endurance athletes overcame wintry conditions to impress in the last Metropolitan League cross country match of the winter at Horsenden Hill in Perivale.
In the Under-13 boys’ race Jamie Philpott continued to show his class with another excellent first place which was his third in the series.
Hannah Booth claimed her third fourth place of season with a good run in the U-13 girls race.
Nick Doyle showed a pleasing return to form finishing fifth in the U-17 men’s race closely supported by Aaron Cooper and George Pettipher.
Once again the U-17 women’s team ran well with Emily Ruane second, Mary Gough third, Lizzy Parry fifth, and they were supported by Niamh Cloona. It completed their fifth team win out of five races to become the overall winners of their age group with 524 points, a lead of more than 170 points over the second placed club.
Peter Townsend was the club’s leading runner in the senior men’s race, in which the veteran men’s A team won the Division Two title and the B team came second in Division Three.
Richard Bloom came first in the V65 competition of the senior men’s race while John Steed was the quickest in the V75 category.
